Ghosts Along the Brazos

Based on a ghost story in the book Ghosts Along the Brazos(Munson). About the Ghost of Britt Bailey or The Bailey's Prairie ghost story. Legend has it that the ghost of Britt Bailey(an ex land and slave owner) wonders his old homestead in a part of Brazoria County, Texas called Bailey's Prairie close to the city of West Columbia and the Bar X ranch. The departed ex-slave owner wanted his wife to bury him with a jug of whiskey. She refused saying, "he had enough whiskey on earth he doesn't need it in the after-life". So as many local people have told it over the years on dark, moonless, rainy nights. His ghost haunts the area looking for whiskey as a ball of light that some people have claimed to see in the Bailey's Prairie- West Columbia area along Hwy 521 and Hwy 35.
